Simon is mostly a fan of sci-fi (think: Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek, B5) and comics (both DC and Marvel). If you'd like or wouldn't like your characters to be recognized by him, just say so here! And please, be rest assured that I will never have him recognize your character without permission. :)

I need a few days off. And I'm sorry, but someone needs to tidy up one of the apartments in Section 1. Tables keep on [TAPTAP.] flipping around me. I'm just leaving my own flipped, because every time I try to put it upright it just flips over again.
notamelonfucker: (Everything in its right place)
Barry is tidying up a home in section one when a hamster ball comes rolling across the floor, but he can’t see a hamster in it. Curious, he picks it up and cracks it open, only to see a crystal inside. He has only heard of crystals so far, and hasn’t had the chance to use one yet. He hesitates at first, knowing that he should wait until he gets home. He’s not even sure what he wants to know from home; the anonymous writer over the journals certainly gave him a lot to talk about.

But eventually, curiosity wins over, and he hesitantly reaches his hand out and touches the crystal.

”Memory” )

Barry stumbles backwards, breathless, unsure of what he thinks of the memory. Of what he thinks of anything, really. He should pay more attention to the fact that he had tried to burn down someone's house - that explains it in his dream - but he finds himself enraptured with the source of the kind woman's voice instead.

Whether he had a good life or not, he doesn't know. But now he knows that he would like to know more.

I'm back. I might be the first one, I'm not sure. I've read back in the journals, so I think I know what was going on. Or is going on. It seemed a bit like the double clone? I saw was [taptap] brainwashed. He was nothing like the last one.

[There is a long pause.]

Did anyone [Another pause, not as long this time; he does not want to make a plea for attention, but he feels he has to know] notice I was missing?

Why aren't more people trying to figure out why this is happening?

Everything I have read says that this isn't normal. Someone named Bell wrote a list of things that have happened to everyone. It's a very long list, and it's only a week into February, which is when it started. I haven't been here long enough to be able to tell what's normal and what isn't by myself, but if something is abnormal in a place the abnormal is normal, there should be a reason behind it.

Maybe it's building up to something big, or something bad. Or both. I don't know, but we should be prepared.

I have heard people saying that all of these things have happened before, during longer stretches of time, so rapid change isn't as common as this is. The big thing I have noticed is that none of the things happening seem to be dangerous, just annoying.

Has anything big happened in the past that this can be linked to? A storm?

Maybe I'm asking too many questions.

[First there's the sound of a controller clicking and video game background music.]

Nathan: Hey, watch me run over this fat bloke. Run fat boy run! Awww he's fucked up my car!

[A pause. There are gunshots and the sound of a woman screaming from the video game system, all very obviously fake.]

Barry: We need to play the game for real. If we give him his money, I think he'll let ___ go.

Alisha: [Skeptically,] So... now all we need is a hundred grand.

[Another pause, then Barry speaks, a little hesitantly.]

Barry: We could rob a bank.

Curtis: [His voice is deeper than Nathan's, and he sounds fairly neutral.] We need a car.

Nathan: Yeah, okay. Let's rob a bank.

[There are footsteps before another man speaks. Where the previous speakers were obviously quite young, this man sounds like an adult. A very indifferent adult, at that.]

Shaun: What's that?

Barry: [Quickly,] Nothing.

Shaun: Really, that's funny, isn't it. Sounds to me like you're planning on robbing a bank.

Nathan: No, no, no no... I said, uh... let's have a big wank. Communal masturbation. The oooolld circlejerk.

[A jingle of keys.]

Shaun: Go clean my car.

Nathan: I don't think cleaning your car was what they had in mind when they gave us community service!

Shaun: Well, I'm a member of the community, and my car needs cleaning. Aaaand I don't give a shit.

Curtis: [Deliberately] The man wants his car washed.

Alisha: [Equally as deliberately] He's giving us his keys so we can clean his car.

Curtis: [Frustrated,] For fuck's sake!

[There are footsteps, then the sound of a car door opening and closing.]

Nathan: We're stealing his car! Right, yeah, I get it. Let's go!

[OOC: Memory can be found here and goes from 0:00 to 01:26. I suggest you watch it because the voices convey a lot more than I can in text. XD]

[Barry’s writing is small, blocky, and incredibly tidy.]

Hello.

[There is a pause as he realizes that this isn’t nearly enough. As he writes more, it is obvious that he is nervous by how slowly the words are formed.]

My name is Barry.

No, it’s not. I said as much in my dream. But I’m called Barry, here. I couldn’t think of any other name. I’m new here.

[Get used to these long pauses.]

This place is like something out of fiction. I haven't seen one television set in any of the windows yet.
